Job Overview

FNB Botswana is seeking a highly skilled Payroll Specialist to manage and optimize payroll processes, ensuring alignment with business practices and compliance with statutory and governance requirements. This role requires expertise in payroll systems, process improvement, and risk management to deliver an exceptional employee experience while driving operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Management and System Support:
    • Define payroll processes and align them with overall business practices.
    • Provide system support and troubleshooting for payroll functionalities.
    • Coordinate payroll activities to ensure accurate and timely payment of employees.
    • Prepare and communicate the annual payroll calendar within agreed timelines.
  • Compliance and Governance:
    • Ensure adherence to statutory, legislative, and internal compliance requirements.
    • Monitor and implement governance standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Address and resolve audit findings related to payroll operations.
    • Ensure policies are updated to reflect legislative or union amendments impacting payroll.
  • Process Improvement and Innovation:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Streamline end-to-end processes aligned with customer journey mapping.
    • Research and recommend technological advancements to enable payroll efficiencies.
  • Risk and Data Management:
    • Identify, mitigate, and document payroll-related risks.
    • Provide accurate and timely reporting on payroll metrics and operational efficiency.
    • Maintain documentation for business requirements and track key performance metrics.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Build and maintain collaborative relationships across teams to enhance service delivery.
    • Act as a payroll subject matter expert (SME) on Human Capital projects.
    • Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) for payroll-related changes or enhancements.
  • Employee Experience:
    • Develop and maintain payslip explanation documents to support employee understanding.
    • Monitor customer feedback and align processes to improve the employee experience.
    • Ensure payroll operations align with organizational values and service standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 6–8 years of experience in HR payroll and payroll systems.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Expertise in payroll systems and processes.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Knowledge of compliance and governance requirements.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
