Through the Country Programme 2022-2026, UNFPA works towards the achievement of transformative results for adolescents and youth, focusing on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), HIV prevention, and gender-based violence (GBV). The organization champions the inclusion of persons with disabilities, providing technical support for disability-responsive SRHR interventions and facilitating the engagement of young people and persons with disabilities in policy dialogues and programming.
UNFPA Botswana is seeking a Junior Consultant to support the delivery of youth and disability programmes, particularly through the Safeguard Young People (SYP) programme. The consultant will contribute to advancing disability-inclusive SRHR, HIV, and GBV services for young people and ensure the meaningful engagement of persons with disabilities in national and regional initiatives.
Scope of Work:
The consultant will be responsible for:
-Supporting the implementation of the Safeguard Young People (SYP) programme.
-Assisting national partners with mainstreaming disability in their SRHR and youth programmes.
-Contributing to national progress reporting on regional and international commitments.
-Promoting meaningful youth engagement in policy and programming through an intersectional approach.
-Supporting the operationalization of the 2030 ESA Commitment.
-Providing training on human rights-based and disability-inclusive programming for stakeholders.
-Developing SRH resource materials for traditional leaders.
-Offering technical guidance on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in SRHR programmes.
-Reviewing policies to ensure they align with national disability frameworks and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
-Supporting the engagement of persons with disabilities in the Country Programme evaluation process.
-Drafting high-quality reports, briefing notes, and articles on programme components.
-Assisting in championing disability inclusion within the UNCT, ESA regional office, and UNFPA headquarters.
-Performing other tasks as directed by supervisors.
Duration and Working Schedule:
1 February to 31 December 2025.
Monitoring and Reporting:
The consultant will submit monthly reports outlining work done, milestones, and achievements.
Qualifications and Expectations:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, or a related Social Science field.
- Experience: Minimum 4 years of professional experience related to disability inclusion and human rights-based programming.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and programme formulation skills in disability inclusion and HRBA (Human Rights-Based Approach).
- Established network with organizations working on disability inclusion.
- Knowledge of UNFPA’s mandate, programs, and ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to work in a high-paced environment, producing quality work while taking initiative.
- Effective teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.
- Volunteer experience in youth programmes is an added advantage.
- Languages: Excellent knowledge of English is required.
