About the Role
The General Worker will provide essential support to the Maintenance Team and Directional Drilling Team by performing tasks related to welding, equipment maintenance, and operational reliability. The role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient operations at Sasol Coal Supply, Central Workshop, Directional Drilling, and Twistdraai Export Plant.
Key Responsibilities
- Welding and Maintenance:
- Perform welding on mining equipment using flux core and other methods.
- Safely operate welding equipment and cutting tools.
- Use oxy-fuel gas cutting equipment in compliance with gas safety rules.
- Assist with overhead crane and lifting equipment operations.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Conduct visual inspections and report unsafe conditions.
- Apply job-specific SOPs and COPs to ensure housekeeping and safety standards are maintained.
- Perform hazard identification and task risk assessments.
- Teamwork and Reporting:
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet goals.
- Report all task activities and identify abnormal conditions.
- Participate in daily morning meetings to review assignments.
- Cost Efficiency:
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and act on them.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12/N3/NCV Level 4 or equivalent (Maths & Science advantageous).
- Minimum Code 08 driver’s licence.
- Medical certificate of fitness (able to obtain).
- First Aid Certificate (advantageous).
Experience and Skills:
- 12 months of welding experience.
- Proficient in using an angle grinder and cutting torch.
- Knowledge of underground machinery (e.g., Shuttle Car, Roof Bolter, Crushers).
- Familiarity with MIG welding equipment (advantageous).
- Plant experience (advantageous).
Technical Knowledge:
- Understanding of safety procedures, SOPs, and the Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Awareness of emergency preparedness and compliance standards.
