Position Overview

The Data Protection Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing data protection processes within the Corporation. This role ensures compliance with data protection standards by developing and implementing policies, strategies, and programs to uphold the integrity of BPC’s information systems. The incumbent will safeguard employee and customer data while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce compliance with the Data Protection Act (DPA) and other relevant data privacy regulations.
  • Monitor and audit internal data processing activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement BPC’s data protection policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to the Department-specific Service Charter.
  • Manage client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Conduct regular training sessions and awareness programs for employees on data protection and DPA compliance.
  • Foster a data protection culture within the organization, ensuring employees understand their roles in safeguarding personal data.
  • Continuously inform employees of relevant changes, improvements, or developments within BPC and oversee their implementation.
  • Develop and maintain data breach response plans, ensuring preparedness for handling data breaches effectively.
  • Lead investigations and resolutions of data breaches, including notifications to affected individuals and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Enforce compliance with safety principles in the Department to minimize injury and productivity loss due to safety incidents.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to meet the Corporation’s requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Information Management, Data Management, Risk and Compliance, or equivalent.
    • Membership in a relevant professional association will be an added advantage.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of seven (7) years post-qualification experience in regulatory compliance.
    • At least three (3) years in middle management within a medium to large-scale organization, with a strong understanding of data protection laws and practices.
