Job Overview:
Intercape is recruiting Professional Long Distance Drivers to transport passengers across South Africa, covering all nine provinces and cross-border destinations, including Botswana, Maputo, and Windhoek. The ideal candidate will have over five years of long-distance driving experience, a professional demeanor, and excellent driving skills to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Trip Inspection:
-Perform comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections in accordance with Intercape’s guidelines.
-Ensure all required travel documents, permits, and licenses are in place before departure.
-Verify that the coach is equipped with necessary items such as logbooks, insurance papers, radio equipment, and operating licenses.
-Ensure proper functioning of the VOD system and all monitors.
Driving Duties:
-Ensure compliance with K53 road safety regulations.
-Drive within Intercape’s prescribed speed limits and national traffic regulations.
-Conduct defensive driving techniques to ensure safety and fuel efficiency.
-Adhere to Intercape’s four-hour driving time policy.
-Perform trailer connection checks before resuming travel.
Passenger Assistance & Customer Service:
-Assist passengers when boarding and exiting the coach.
-Offer special attention to elderly passengers, unaccompanied minors, and passengers with disabilities.
-Verify that passengers on cross-border trips have the necessary travel documentation.
-Provide route information and guidance to passengers when required.
-Handle passenger concerns and complaints professionally.
Luggage Handling & Security:
-Load and secure luggage safely, ensuring that no flammable, dangerous, or illegal items are transported.
-Weigh luggage at designated stops and ensure that each piece has a valid Intercape luggage sticker.
-Maintain luggage control sheets and ensure proper documentation of excess luggage fees.
Breakdowns & Emergencies:
-Identify a safe stopping area and assess the situation.
-Inform Central Operations immediately and keep passengers updated.
-Provide assistance to connecting passengers in case of trip delays.
-Perform basic vehicle troubleshooting and tyre changes when necessary.
-Assist passengers with contacting relatives or friends at destination stops when required.
Coach Hygiene & Maintenance:
-Ensure that the coach remains clean and organized throughout the journey.
-Monitor the emergency toilet cleanliness and supply levels.
-Collect passenger rubbish at refreshment stops and dispose of it appropriately.
-Report recurring mechanical issues to management and maintenance teams.
Administrative Duties:
-Validate boarding passes and tickets for all passengers.
-Maintain an updated and accurate manifest.
-Record and balance excess luggage and onboard sales (OBS) transactions.
-Ensure that all documentation, receipts, and vouchers are submitted at the end of each trip.
-Conduct headcounts at major stops and refreshment breaks.
Requirements & Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
–Grade 10 (Standard 8) minimum education requirement.
–Valid EC (Code 14) or EC1 04 (Code 11) License.
–Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) – must be valid for at least three months.
–No outstanding traffic fines.
–Own cellular phone for communication.
–Clear criminal and Nexis Lexis report.
–Reliable transport (or access to suitable public transport).
–Fluency in English and one additional language (Bilingual proficiency preferred).
Experience:
-A minimum of three years of long-distance driving experience on South African roads.
-Experience handling passenger inquiries, complaints, and emergency situations professionally.
Additional Requirements:
-Must be between 28 to 60 years old.
–Accident-free driving record.
-Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle challenging situations effectively.
-Professional, well-groomed, and customer-focused demeanor.
Performance Indicators:
–Passenger and operational crew feedback on service quality.
–Adherence to driving and safety regulations.
–Tracking reports and driving efficiency records.
–Customer satisfaction and complaints resolution.
–Maintenance and cleanliness of the coach.
