Job Overview:

Intercape is recruiting Code 14 Drivers to transport passengers across South Africa, covering all nine provinces and cross-border routes, including Botswana, Maputo, and Windhoek. The ideal candidate should have over five years of long-distance driving experience, be well-presented, and possess excellent driving skills to ensure a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers.


Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Trip Inspection:

-Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections in accordance with Intercape’s checklist.

-Verify all operating licenses, permits, and travel documents.

-Ensure that necessary equipment, such as logbooks, insurance papers, and emergency tools, are in place.

-Confirm that the VOD system and passenger monitors are functioning properly before departure.

Driving Duties:

-Drive in compliance with K53 road safety regulations.

-Follow Intercape’s speed limits and adhere to national traffic rules.

-Conduct trailer connection checks before departure.

-Apply defensive driving techniques to ensure passenger safety.

-Ensure the coach is not overloaded and follows the designated schedule.

-Adhere to the four-hour driving limit to comply with safety regulations.

Passenger Assistance & Customer Service:

-Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the coach.

-Pay special attention to elderly passengers, unaccompanied minors, and disabled individuals.

-Verify that passengers on cross-border trips possess the required documentation.

-Provide route information and travel assistance as needed.

-Handle passenger complaints professionally and courteously.

Luggage Handling & Security:

-Load and secure luggage safely, ensuring prohibited items are not transported.

-Weigh and label all luggage at designated stops.

-Maintain luggage control sheets and ensure proper documentation of excess luggage fees.

Breakdowns & Emergencies:

-Stop in a safe location and assess the situation.

-Update Central Operations and provide regular updates to passengers.

-Perform basic vehicle troubleshooting and tyre changes when necessary.

-Assist passengers with contacting relatives or friends in case of unexpected delays.

-Manage passenger transfers in case of a breakdown or total vehicle replacement.

Coach Hygiene & Maintenance:

-Keep the coach clean and well-maintained throughout the trip.

-Ensure that the emergency toilet remains stocked and sanitary.

-Collect passenger trash at refreshment stops and dispose of it properly.

-Report any recurring mechanical or safety issues to the operations team.

Administrative Duties:

-Validate boarding passes and tickets for all passengers.

-Keep an accurate and updated trip manifest.

-Balance excess luggage and onboard sales (OBS) transactions.

-Submit all trip documentation, receipts, and vouchers at the end of each journey.

-Conduct headcounts at major stops and refreshment breaks.


Requirements & Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

Grade 10 (Standard 8) minimum education requirement.

Valid EC (Code 14) or EC1 04 (Code 11) License.

Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) – valid for at least three months.

No outstanding traffic fines.

Own cellular phone for communication.

Clear criminal and Nexis Lexis report.

Reliable transport (or access to suitable public transportation).

Bilingual proficiency preferred (English and another South African language).

Experience:

-At least three years of long-distance driving experience on South African roads.

-Experience handling customer service, complaints, and emergencies professionally.

Additional Requirements:

-Must be between 28 to 60 years old.

Accident-free driving record.

-Strong ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently.

Professional, customer-friendly attitude and well-groomed appearance.


Performance Indicators:

Passenger and operational crew feedback on service quality.

Compliance with driving and safety regulations.

Tracking reports and driving efficiency metrics.

Customer satisfaction and complaint resolution.

Maintenance and cleanliness of the coach.
