Overview
De Beers Exploration is seeking a diligent Treatment Plant Operator 3 to support the Sample Treatment Centre within the Indicator Mineral Laboratory. The role focuses on the safe, accurate treatment of geological samples, adherence to ECOHS standards, and meticulous data capture to support discovery and evaluation of kimberlite targets and diamond-bearing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Treatment & Data Integrity
- Produce heavy (indicator) mineral concentrates per approved procedures.
- Follow Diamond Control protocols during all treatment activities.
- Capture process data in LIMS and maintain treatment/decontamination records (e.g., tromp curves, tracer tests).
- Conduct tracer tests; recognise and report performance deviations or non-conformances.
- Perform plant de-contamination as required.
- Plant Operations
- Operate across key processes: crushing, wet/dry screening, dense media separation, electrostatic and magnetic separation, heavy liquid separation, and aliquoting.
- Complete pre-start checks; execute routine maintenance per schedule; apply correct lock-out procedures.
- Assist with troubleshooting; escalate issues to the Project Metallurgist/Maintenance team.
- Conduct shutdowns according to procedure.
- Governance, Risk, Compliance & Reporting
- Demonstrate visible safety leadership and comply with ECOHS, quality, diamond protocol and risk requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality, data integrity and sample chain of custody.
- Perform risk assessments for planned and ad-hoc tasks; report observations and incidents.
- Keep auditable records for safety and quality management systems.
Requirements & Skills
- Education: Grade 12 (Mathematics advantageous).
- Technical: Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite); valid competency/licence for machinery operation (e.g., Forklift) advantageous.
- Experience:
- Prior exposure to laboratory environments, diamond/heavy mineral recovery processes, or field exploration advantageous.
- Experience in sample treatment and/or mineral processing will be beneficial.
