Overview:
PepsiCo’s Shakaskraal Bakery is seeking a dedicated Long Haul Driver to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of products to our customers. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle in excellent condition, adhering to safety standards, and delivering goods without driver-related defects. This role is crucial to our supply chain, ensuring that our products reach their destinations promptly and safely.
Responsibilities:
-Ensure the prompt delivery of products, whether in bulk or bagged form, to assigned customers, with a focus on preventing any driver-related defects.
-Monitor and maintain fuel consumption within the agreed standards.
-Regularly inspect tyres, lights, trailer couplings, and fluid levels (oil and water) to ensure they meet acceptable standards.
-Keep the truck in good condition, maintaining cleanliness, ensuring the bodywork is in order, and checking that all issued equipment and spare wheels are present.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to safe driving practices, including conducting safety inspection stops.
- Report any vehicle defects and strive to achieve zero breakdowns by performing initial fault finding in case of issues, such as tyre changes.
- Ensure that the vehicle complies with all safety regulations and driving practices.
- Communication: Maintain availability via cellphone to ensure prompt communication.
- Compliance: Adhere to traffic laws to avoid speed or traffic-related fines.
Qualifications:
- License: Must possess a valid Code 14 driver’s license with experience in long-distance driving, capable of transporting products with vehicles weighing up to 23,000 tons.
- Experience: Previous experience in transporting goods, particularly within a bakery environment, is preferred.
- Skills & Attributes:
- High energy levels and alertness during long drives.
- Ability to take ownership and make safe decisions, especially when fatigued.
- Honesty, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
