Overall Job Purpose:

The Driver will be responsible for providing efficient and reliable motor vehicle services to the Council for Geoscience. This includes transporting passengers, delivering goods such as mail and parcels, and ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

-Provide effective and timely driver services for CGS staff, stakeholders, and goods.

-Transport passengers and deliver items using light and medium motor vehicles.

-Adhere to daily transportation schedules and manage any changes or unforeseen obstacles, consulting with the Manager when necessary.

-Communicate schedule changes promptly to stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with traffic laws, safety regulations, and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Complete all necessary records and logbooks related to vehicle use and item handling.
  • Conduct pre and post-trip inspections to identify and report any vehicle damage.
  • Assist with the delivery and collection of vehicles from maintenance agents and third parties.
  • Safeguard vehicles, mail, documents, and parcels against theft, misuse, and loss.
  • Support CGS operational needs outside of regular working hours when requested.
  • Perform additional ad hoc duties as required.

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Grade 10 education.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 10/C1 with PDP).
  • Minimum of 6 months of relevant driving experience.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and operate a GPS.
  • Understanding of the responsibilities associated with driving and transporting passengers.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.
