Vulamathuba Empumelelo is excited to announce its bursary programme for the 2024 academic year, aimed at supporting talented and dedicated students pursuing undergraduate studies within fields listed under the Scarce or Critical Skills List. We are committed to empowering local talent in the Cape Metro Region and fostering the growth of individuals with a passion for contributing to these vital sectors.

About the Bursary Programme:

  • The bursary will cover various educational expenses up to a maximum value of R45,000, including:
    • Registration fees
    • Tuition fees
    • Textbooks
    • Study-related materials relevant to your course
    • Examination fees
  • Recipients will benefit from quarterly mentoring sessions, providing guidance and support throughout their academic journey.

Bursary Obligations:

  • Bursaries are awarded annually and are subject to renewal based on Vulamathuba Empumelelo’s discretion.
  • Upon graduation, recipients will be required to “work back” a portion of the bursary within the Communicare group of companies or any other nominated organization, as outlined in the agreement with Vulamathuba Empumelelo.

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements before applying:

  • South African citizenship or a Permanent Residency Permit/Work Visa in South Africa.
  • Residency within the City of Cape Town.
  • Age between 19 and 50 years old.
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Pursuing or intending to study a qualification within the Scarce or Critical Skills List on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Enrollment or intention to study at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (University or TVET College).
  • Demonstrated financial need through a means test.
  • Gross household income not exceeding R350,000 per annum.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in community service or special project work.
  • Preference given to students accepted to study at public institutions in the Western Cape.
