Honey Chilli Beef Fakeaway Recipe

Ingredients

For the beef marinade:

-450g steak strips

-1 tbsp light soy sauce

-2 tsp baking soda

-1 tsp cornflour

-Salt and pepper, to taste

For the stir-fry:

  • Small bunch of spring onions, sliced
  • 2 bell peppers, sliced
  • 1 small tin (220g) pineapple slices, cut into chunks
  • 6-7 mushrooms, sliced

For the sauce:

  • 4 tbsp honey
  • 4 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce (2 tbsp light, 2 tbsp dark)
  • 3-4 tbsp juice from the tinned pineapple
  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp onion granules
  • Pinch of chilli flakes (adjust to taste for heat)

Method

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, mix the steak strips with soy sauce, baking soda, cornflour, salt, and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes, or up to an hour.
  2. Cook the Beef:
    • Heat a large non-stick pan over high heat and spray with oil. Cook the beef for 1-2 minutes on each side until browned. To avoid overcrowding, cook in two batches if necessary. Once done, remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Cook the Vegetables:
    • In the same pan, reduce the heat to medium-high. Add the sliced peppers and mushrooms, cooking for 3-4 minutes. Then, stir in the spring onions and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Make the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, combine the honey, sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, pineapple juice, cornflour, onion granules, and chilli flakes. Add this sauce to the pan with the vegetables, allowing it to simmer until it bubbles and thickens.
  5. Combine Everything:
    • Once the sauce has thickened, return the cooked beef to the pan along with the pineapple chunks. Stir and heat through.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the honey chilli beef with rice and enjoy!
