Overview

The Department of Tourism is offering an exciting opportunity for unemployed youth to join the Tourism Safety Monitor Programme. This 12-month learnership aims to provide both theoretical and practical training in the tourism and hospitality sector. The programme is open to all eligible applicants, and people living with disabilities are encouraged to apply.


Programme Details

The Tourism Safety Monitor Programme includes:

  • 3 months of theoretical training
  • 9 months of practical training
    Successful candidates will sign a 12-month contract with a service provider appointed by the Department of Tourism. Participants will be assigned to tourist attractions and sites close to their residence.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen with a valid Identity Document
  • Be unemployed and between the ages of 18 to 35
  • Hold a Matric certificate or any equivalent qualification
  • Proficient in English
  • Additional qualifications in tourism or environmental fields will be advantageous
  • Must live within a 28km radius of a tourist attraction site (proof of residence required, such as a municipal bill or letter from a tribal authority or ward councillor)
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays
  • Have a passion or interest in the tourism industry

Important: Affidavits will not be accepted as proof of residence, and no faxed or emailed applications will be considered.
