Overview

The Saldanha Bay Municipality is establishing a temporary database for potential candidates interested in contributing to public safety services. This database will allow the municipality to quickly fill temporary positions as needed across various departments. Successful candidates will be placed in the database, which will remain valid for one year.


Eligibility Criteria

-Applicants must reside within the Saldanha Bay Municipality. Proof of residence will be required.

-Candidates should be ready to take on roles that may arise within the coming year and be flexible to meet the city’s requirements.

Available Positions

  1. Trainee Traffic Officer
  2. Learner Law Enforcement Officer

Position 1: Trainee Traffic Officer

As a Trainee Traffic Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing legislation related to road safety, including the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA 93/96) and the National Land Transport Act (NLTA 5/2009). This role is essential for maintaining road order and ensuring compliance with local by-laws.

Key Responsibilities:

Legislation Enforcement: Ensure compliance with the NRTA and NLTA.

By-law Enforcement: Enforce municipal by-laws effectively.

Traffic Plans: Execute daily and annual traffic plans and programs.

Service Delivery: Assist the department in achieving key service delivery objectives related to traffic management.

Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Driving License: Valid Code B driver’s license.
  • Qualifications: Relevant Traffic Warden qualification.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of traffic warden experience.
  • Record: No criminal record.
  • Physical & Mental Fitness: Must be physically and mentally fit.
  • Additional Skills: Firearm proficiency is an advantage.

Position 2: Learner Law Enforcement Officer

The role of a Learner Law Enforcement Officer is critical in preventing crime and ensuring community safety. This position requires individuals who can think quickly, make sound decisions in high-pressure situations, and uphold safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrolling: Conduct effective patrols to prevent crime and address problem areas.
  • Response: Respond promptly and effectively to calls and unusual activities.
  • Emergency Situations: Assess emergencies and call for backup when necessary.
  • Physical Control: Maintain control over individuals when required, following use-of-force policies.
  • Arrest Procedures: Follow proper arrest protocols in line with municipal policies.
  • Community Safety: Apply knowledge of local ordinances to promote safety within the community.

Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Qualifications: Basic Law Enforcement qualification or Peace Officer certification from an accredited institution.
  • Driving License: Valid Code B driver’s license.
  • Record: No criminal record.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of relevant experience in crime prevention.
  • Additional Skills: Firearm proficiency is an advantage.
