As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance the efficiency of our power generation facilities, we are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Morupule Power Station.
Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will oversee the formulation and implementation of Mechanical Maintenance policies, codes, and standards within the power station. The role is critical in ensuring adherence to safety and environmental compliance while coordinating and executing specialized engineering works to optimize plant reliability and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot highly complex mechanical equipment and systems, leading emergency repairs, major rebuilds, and installations.
- Develop, review, and approve maintenance programs, standards, and procedures to ensure high plant and equipment availability and reliability.
- Conduct research and analysis to improve mechanical maintenance strategies.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to senior management, ensuring the effective execution of maintenance programs.
- Prepare tender documents, contracts, and functional specifications for plant upgrades and refurbishment projects.
- Analyze plant performance data and recommend strategies for efficiency improvement and asset management.
- Lead and supervise mechanical maintenance operations, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and engineering standards.
- Manage and oversee contractors and consultants working on mechanical repairs, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and design specifications.
- Monitor and certify contractor project work, including equipment installations, ensuring completion according to required specifications and quality standards.
- Provide technical advice for critical repairs and maintenance work on plant and equipment.
- Conduct periodic inspections of plant and equipment, ensuring adherence to best practices and operational efficiency.
- Participate in the development and implementation of long-term, medium-term, and short-term maintenance strategies for the Generation Division.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, propose solutions, and implement approved process enhancements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Membership in a recognized professional engineering institution will be an added advantage.
- Experience:
- A minimum of seven (7) years post-qualification experience in mechanical maintenance.
- At least two (2) years in a management capacity.
- Experience in the electricity industry, specifically power generation, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of fossil-fired power generation is required.
- Experience in a maintenance environment is essential.
