Botswana Predator Conservation (BPC), under the umbrella of Wild Entrust, is a dedicated organization committed to advancing scientific research and promoting the conservation of threatened and endangered carnivore species and their habitats in Botswana. This position is based at our remote Wild Dog Research Camp near the eastern Moremi Game Reserve, offering an opportunity to contribute directly to wildlife conservation in Botswana’s pristine wilderness.

Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Field Researcher to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in BPC’s mission, contributing to vital research activities, data management, and conservation efforts. This role requires a self-starter with a deep commitment to natural science and conservation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Field Data Collection
    • Record animal behavior and data using written notes, specialized software, and mobile applications.
    • Maintain and monitor remote camera traps.
    • Track collared study animals using radio telemetry.
    • Take identification photographs of large carnivores.
    • Collect biological samples as needed.
  2. Data Management
    • Maintain and update the BPC database and individual identification records using tools such as Microsoft Excel and Access.
    • Process and catalog camera trap footage, identifying individual animals for research purposes.
  3. Public Relations
    • Liaise with tourism operators and the Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
    • Deliver engaging presentations on BPC’s conservation research.
    • Assist in the creation and editing of social media content for BPC projects.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field and experience in field research or data collection.
  • Clean driver’s license, with a basic understanding of vehicle mechanics considered an advantage.
  • Knowledge of bush navigation and 4×4 driving.
  • Proficiency in data collection (written and digital) and personal computer skills (e.g., MS Excel, Access, Word).
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overnight in the bush as needed.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
