Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) is a semi-autonomous government organization responsible for assessing and collecting tax revenue, as well as managing border administration. BURS is seeking a Junior Database Administrator to join its team. The ideal candidate should be dynamic, self-motivated, and possess strong technical skills to support and maintain BURS’s database systems.
Position: Junior Database Administrator (x1) – Gaborone
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot system issues.
- Support data backup, recovery, and security measures to ensure data integrity.
- Work closely with IT teams to optimize database queries and structures.
- Provide technical support for database users within the organization.
- Implement and maintain database documentation and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with data protection policies and regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in database administration, SQL, or relevant database management tools is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of database security, backup procedures, and performance tuning.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Competencies:
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other relational database management systems.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
