Position Summary:
The Accounts Officer will play a vital role in managing financial transactions with a focus on accounts payable, general ledger reconciliation, and payroll processing. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a working knowledge of accounting systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable:
-Match supplier invoices with purchase orders and goods received notes (GRNs).
-Obtain and process invoice approvals in line with authorization limits.
-Allocate expenditures to appropriate general ledger accounts.
-Prepare and execute supplier payments, including remittances and proofs of payment.
-Address price variances in collaboration with the Procurement Section.
-Maintain accurate invoice filing for audit readiness and easy retrieval.
-Stamp and record paid invoices to prevent duplicate payments.
-Ensure compliance with supplier payment terms and accuracy of supplier master data.
-Issue withholding tax certificates to suppliers after payments.
General Ledger Management:
-Reconcile allocated general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
-Identify and correct mispostings through journal entries.
-Process general ledger journals as directed by the supervisor.
Payroll Administration:
-Process employee change requests and ensure timely master data updates.
-Capture payroll data for accurate payments to employees and third parties.
-Execute third-party payments post-payroll run.
-Reconcile payroll accounts and address employee or third-party queries.
-Ensure compliance with Employment and Income Tax Acts.
-Assist in the preparation of withholding tax and VAT returns (for Botswana Revenue Service and SARS).
Minimum Requirements:
-AAT or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent.
-BICA Technician Membership Certification.
-Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in a similar financial role.
