Overview:

Botswana Power Corporation is seeking a Coal Plant Operator to join our team in Morupule. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and monitoring the Coal, Ash, Pollution Abatement, and Fuel Oil Plant (Balance of Plant – BOP) systems to ensure a continuous supply of inputs to the boiler and the efficient disposal of process outputs. This role requires strict adherence to BPC procedures and safety, health, and environmental standards.

Responsibilities:

Plant Operations & Monitoring:

-Operate and control Balance of Plant systems, including coal, ash, and pollution abatement plants, ensuring continuous process inputs and waste disposal.

-Monitor plant performance to identify defects, report issues, and support effective repairs.

-Perform functionality tests on equipment after maintenance to ensure operational efficiency.

-Collect operational data, analyze equipment performance, and report issues for corrective action.

-Support Root Cause Analysis by providing preliminary incident data for quality findings.

-Execute work within BPC’s Environmental Management Plan, ensuring compliance.

Safety & Compliance:

-Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and equipment change-over schedules to improve plant reliability.

-Follow-up with Auxiliary Plant Attendants and Laborers to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

-Recommend process improvements for enhanced operational efficiency and safety.

-Implement approved change management tasks as per established procedures.

-Conduct quality management activities, including visual inspections and evaluation of quality certificates upon receiving station inputs.

-Perform routine safety checks on equipment and workspace in line with BPC policies.

-Support SAP operations by opening and closing process valves for safety document issuance.

-Contribute to the development and compliance of risk assessments to minimize safety incidents.

-Maintain accurate logbooks and records of equipment performance for future reference.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Power Plant Operations or equivalent.
  • Must qualify as a Junior Authorized Person within six (6) months from the date of appointment.
  • Valid Class B Driver’s License.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year post-qualification experience in a maintenance and operations environment.
  • Basic experience in coordinating the work of others.
