Overview:

Botswana Power Corporation is seeking a qualified Electrical Assistant – Substation Maintenance to join our team in Jwaneng. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the maintenance, repair, and testing of substation transmission and distribution equipment to ensure optimal reliability and availability.

Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repair of Substation Equipment:

-Perform maintenance, repair, and testing of transformers, reactors, capacitors, HV switchgear, and ancillary equipment.

-Carry out maintenance of transformer and reactor breathers.

-Inspect transmission and distribution network equipment to ensure availability and reliability.

-Report defects found during inspections to the Technician – Substation Maintenance for corrective action.

-Assist in testing of substation batteries, transformers, and switchgear to ensure operational reliability.

-Operate oil filtration units for maintenance tasks.

-Perform installation and repair of primary, secondary, and ancillary equipment on the transmission and distribution system.

-Carry out maintenance of substation lighting systems, chargers, and batteries.

Operational Efficiency & Compliance:

-Operate machines or equipment within designated work areas, prioritizing routine tasks to improve efficiency.

-Perform operational tasks following established maintenance processes and parameters.

-Adhere to quality standards and procedures as outlined in the maintenance policy.

-Ensure compliance with IEE regulations, BPC Maintenance Policy, and SHER policies.

-Maintain good condition and safe keeping of all tools and equipment.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:

-Maintain safety and upkeep of substations.

-Actively participate in safety, health, and environmental (SHER) programs as directed by the Corporation.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Valid Class B Driver’s License (Mandatory).

Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year post-qualification experience in an electricity supply environment.
  • Exposure to substation maintenance is an added advantage.
