Overview:
Botswana Power Corporation is seeking two experienced Fire Risk Coordinators to join our team in Morupule. The successful candidates will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and monitoring fire safety programs to minimize fire risks and ensure compliance with BPC’s integrated SHEQ performance standards, NFPA standards, and statutory regulations.
Responsibilities:
Fire Safety & Risk Management:
-Identify fire training needs and develop relevant training materials on fire prevention, protection, and evacuation procedures.
-Develop fire contingency plans, including evacuation procedures, to ensure emergency preparedness.
-Coordinate fire risk assessments of buildings, plants, and corporate developments, recommending fire prevention and protection measures.
-Monitor fire systems to ensure operational readiness.
Incident Investigation & Compliance:
-Investigate fire incidents and liaise with external investigation authorities.
-Ensure compliance with fire safety standards, including NFPA, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001, and BOBS requirements.
-Advise management on trends in fire prevention and suppression measures, ensuring fire systems remain up to date and functional.
Fire Equipment & Budget Management:
-Coordinate regular maintenance of fire safety systems to ensure reliability and serviceability.
-Develop and implement fire safety strategies and business plans aligned with corporate objectives.
-Initiate budget requirements (OPEX and CAPEX) for risk reduction projects.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:
-Develop and implement engagement plans for internal and external stakeholders related to fire risks.
-Advise management on stakeholder queries and facilitate resolution through line management.
-Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on fire prevention, incidents, and related activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
–Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Safety Management or an equivalent qualification.
-Strong knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other best practice systems.
–Valid membership in SHER professional bodies (advantageous).
Experience:
–Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in fire safety.
-At least 3 years of experience in a middle management role.
-Experience in power utility (generation, transmission & distribution) is an advantage.
