Overview:
Botswana Power Corporation is seeking five (5) skilled System Controllers to monitor, coordinate, and control the distribution network loading and switching operations. This role ensures safe operation, maintenance, and quick restoration of customer power supplies.
Responsibilities:
Network Monitoring & Fault Management:
-Monitor the distribution network for abnormal conditions and take corrective measures, including load transfers to maintain power continuity.
-Direct field operators to fault locations and assist in fault investigations for timely power restoration.
-Record system defects and report to the relevant sections for repair.
-Prepare operational switching programs to optimize efficiency during power isolation and restoration.
Coordination & Compliance:
-Liaise with the National Control Centre, other Distribution Service Centres, and external utilities for network operations, outages, and system coupling.
-Contribute to the development and review of operational procedures and policies for enhanced efficiency and safety.
-Ensure switching operations compliance with operational safety rules.
Customer & Operational Support:
-Receive and log fault complaints from customers and assign them to Faults Crews and Field Operators.
-Maintain a detailed log of network activities and events for investigations and trend analysis.
-Identify shortcomings in current compliance processes, systems, and procedures and suggest improvements.
-Monitor fault trends and recommend permanent resolutions to minimize recurrent faults.
Safety & SHER Compliance:
-Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, and Environmental Regulations (SHER) and Corporation standards.
-Conduct periodic safety audits to promote awareness and compliance.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Senior Authorization is compulsory for internal candidates.
- Valid Class B Driver’s License (Advantageous).
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in power network operations.
