Overview:
Botswana Power Corporation is seeking three (3) experienced Technicians – Substation Maintenance to join our team in Gaborone and Letlhakane. The successful candidates will be responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, testing, and operating transmission and distribution power equipment to ensure reliability and availability in line with operational standards.
Responsibilities:
Substation Maintenance & Operations:
-Supervise team activities to ensure adherence to operational procedures and safety standards.
-Perform network switching for isolation and restoration of power supply following BPC safety protocols.
-Carry out maintenance inspections and functional tests on substation equipment.
-Diagnose faults, analyze test results, and recommend repairs or replacements to optimize equipment availability.
-Conduct pre-commissioning inspections for new installations and ensure conformance to specifications.
-Perform transformer oil sampling, testing, and analysis to maintain equipment efficiency.
Testing & Documentation:
-Conduct tests on transmission and distribution equipment in accordance with industry standards.
-Maintain accurate test records and update equipment test databases.
-Troubleshoot network equipment and take corrective action when necessary.
-Ensure proper calibration of test equipment for accuracy and reliability.
-Submit operational and maintenance reports to the Engineer – Network Maintenance.
Safety & Compliance:
-Issue and cancel safety documents for work on transmission facilities.
-Ensure compliance with BPC safety, health, and environmental regulations.
-Identify shortcomings in maintenance processes and recommend improvements.
-Support the implementation of maintenance projects to align with existing standards.
Budget & Supplier Management:
-Provide input on sectional budgets.
-Follow up on supplier payments with the supply chain team.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Senior Authorization is compulsory up to 66kV or 400kV.
- Professional Membership with the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) is required.
- Valid Class B Driver’s License.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ post-qualification experience in a power environment.
- At least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
