Overview:
The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) is seeking an experienced and strategic professional to oversee the regulation and control of veterinary medicines, vaccines, and biologicals. Reporting to the Director of Product Evaluation & Registration, the Manager will lead policy development and regulatory implementation to ensure that only safe, effective, and quality veterinary medicines are available in Botswana. This position is critical to national health, compliance with international standards, and BoMRA’s stakeholder engagement strategies.
Position Purpose:
To manage the veterinary medicines function by overseeing product evaluation, registration, and post-market surveillance. The role ensures regulatory compliance, fosters inter-agency collaboration, and represents BoMRA in both local and international forums related to veterinary medicine regulation.
Key Responsibilities:
-Oversee the evaluation and registration of veterinary medicines, vaccines, and biologicals for quality, safety, and efficacy.
-Develop and manage operational plans, budgets, and resources for the veterinary medicines unit.
-Lead the formulation and execution of policies, guidelines, SOPs, and regulatory procedures.
-Supervise post-market surveillance and adverse event reporting systems.
-Coordinate inspections and licensing of entities dealing in importation, storage, distribution, and dispensing of veterinary medicines.
-Conduct quality compliance assessments of manufacturers for certification and authorization.
-Monitor and verify veterinary medicine imports for compliance with national standards.
-Represent BoMRA in regional and international regulatory forums.
-Implement stakeholder engagement strategies and ensure effective collaboration across the regulatory ecosystem.
Minimum Requirements:
-Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
-At least 8 years’ experience in regulatory roles, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in veterinary medicine regulation or assessment.
-Demonstrated experience in post-market surveillance, inspections, and regulatory quality management systems.
-Knowledge of international frameworks such as WOAH and FAO, and familiarity with regulatory harmonization practices.
