Overview

We are seeking dedicated General Assistants to join our team across various locations in South Africa. This role involves providing exceptional customer service, handling stock, and maintaining store areas.

Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Acknowledge and assist customers, identifying their needs and advising them on products.
  • Address product queries and handle customer complaints promptly.
  • Promote additional sales and ensure efficient loading of customer purchases.
  • Inform customers about additional services such as delivery, bulk deposits, glass cutting, plan reading, credit programs, special orders, trusses, distant ordering, and the VIC Customer Programme.
  • Maintain product knowledge and be present in your designated aisle.

Housekeeping:

  • Ensure aisles are free of obstacles and stock is merchandised promptly.
  • Keep shelf pricing accurate and complete checklists for canteen and toilet/shower schedules.

Safety (OHSA) Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety regulations, using appropriate safety gear and ensuring the safety of customers and staff.
  • Ensure stock is safely merchandised in your area and report any discrepancies to the Store Manager.

Readiness for Business:

  • Follow procedures for “Ready for Business” and “Beyond my Control” as per company standards.

Loss Prevention and Security:

  • Identify gaps in displays, investigate causes, and report concerns to management.
  • Be vigilant about suspicious behavior and report any suspicions.
  • Ensure no product is loaded for a customer without proof of purchase or necessary documentation.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 or at least one year of related work experience.
  • Proficiency in English and the dominant language of the area where the position is available.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
