Job Opportunity: EPWP General Workers (Short-Term Contract)

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), Health Department, is offering short-term contract positions (12 months) for EPWP General Workers across various regions (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G). The Health Department invites applications from unemployed individuals to provide essential services within health facilities. Selected candidates will assist with data capturing, general work, and queue management.

Positions Available:

-Department: Health

-Branch: Integrated Policy, Planning and Research Unit

-Designation: EPWP Data Capturer / Queue Marshal / General Worker

-Salary: R3,500 per month

-Location: Various Regions (A-G)

Appointment Criteria:

-Minimum of Grade 10 qualification or higher

-Youth (18 years and older, with preference for youth applicants)

-People with disabilities are encouraged to apply

-Familiarity with City of Johannesburg’s health-related processes, best practices, policies, and procedures

-Strong numeric, written, and verbal communication skills

-Basic proficiency in using electronic devices, such as email and internet navigation

Primary Functions:

General Worker:

  • Clean and maintain waiting areas, consulting rooms, offices, kitchens, laundries, etc.
  • Ensure that surfaces used for clinical procedures are cleaned and prepared appropriately
  • Sort and change soiled linen in all consulting rooms
  • Empty waste bins and ensure that the clinic’s surroundings are kept clean

Data Capturer:

  • Capture data and update client records
  • Collect and report monthly statistics of clinic visits
  • Organize and maintain client records in alpha-numeric or chronological order
  • Manage appointments and coordinate the clinic’s stationary and materials inventory
  • Record meeting minutes and handle related clerical tasks

Queue Marshal:

  • Greet patients and visitors and provide necessary information
  • Assist in directing clinic visitors and ensure smooth patient flow
  • Manage and control queues, directing visitors to the appropriate service areas
  • Oversee the helpdesk and handle patient inquiries
