Overview:

The Cluster “Energy – Climate – Natural Resources” of GIZ Botswana / SADC is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to support its Finance and Administrative Unit. This role is vital for ensuring the efficient management of financial and administrative tasks within the organization.

The position offers an exciting opportunity to work within an international development organization operating in the SADC region, focusing on climate change, energy efficiency, tourism, and natural resources management.


Responsibilities:

-Assist in the Cluster’s financial and administrative duties.

-Support the Cluster’s financial and administrative staff in day-to-day tasks.

-Collaborate closely with the Cluster’s Finance and Administrative Unit, including procurement/contract officers and finance officers at GIZ country office.

-Stay updated on GIZ financial, administrative, procurement, and contract regulations.

-Identify bottlenecks and recommend changes for improving financial, administrative, procurement, and contractual processes.


Tasks:

  • Manage cash transactions, including monitoring, replenishments, checks, and filing.
  • Assist in bank management, including funds monitoring and fund requests.
  • Support follow-up on receivables, obligations, and commitments.
  • Support the Cluster’s asset management.
  • Implement internal control or audit recommendations.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the management.

Requirements and Skills:

Educational Qualification:

  • Degree or Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Professional Experience:

  • Basic experience in a comparable position.
  • Knowledge of general financial, administrative, and procurement rules and guidelines, preferably within GIZ.
  • Experience in an international organization or company is an advantage.

Other Knowledge and Competencies:

  • Proficiency in standard IT applications, particularly MS 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Willingness to learn GIZ-specific applications.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Result-driven and resource-oriented working approach.
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask effectively.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn independently and proactively.
