Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) is a state-owned utility established in 1970 by an Act of Parliament. It is responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity across Botswana in areas approved by the Ministry of Minerals, Resources, Green Technology, and Energy Security.

Since its inception, BPC has expanded from a small oil-fired power station in Gaborone (commissioned in 1970 and decommissioned in 1989) to operating a thermal power station at Morupule, located approximately 12 kilometers west of Palapye in the Central District. The power station is fueled by coal supplied from the adjacent Morupule Colliery.
