Overview:

Dikgatlong Local Municipality is seeking a dedicated and qualified Traffic Officer to join its Community Services Department. The successful candidate will play a critical role in promoting road safety and enforcing traffic regulations to ensure the well-being of the community.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce road traffic and municipal by-laws
  • Conduct road inspections and perform point duty
  • Issue traffic fines and execute warrants of arrest
  • Impound unroadworthy, illegally parked, or abandoned vehicles
  • Enforce pedestrian, speed, and overload control
  • Respond to moving violations and incidents involving intoxicated drivers
  • Support public transport law enforcement initiatives
  • Attend accident scenes in coordination with SAPS
  • Escort VIPs, abnormal loads, and manage traffic at events
  • Provide crowd control and manage scholar patrols
  • Maintain compliance with operational procedures and recordkeeping
  • Give testimony in court regarding traffic violations
  • Perform additional traffic-related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification
  • Basic Traffic Officer Diploma
  • 2 years of operational experience in traffic law enforcement
  • No criminal record or prior convictions
  • Registration as a Road Traffic Law Enforcement Officer
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence (Code C1 or EC is an added advantage)
  • Examiner for Driving Licences and/or Examiner of Vehicles Diplomas (added advantage)

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of traffic systems, practices, and relevant legislation
  • Familiarity with Road Traffic Management Corporation Act, National Road Traffic Act, and Criminal Procedure Act
  • Ability to work in inter-governmental environments
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong recordkeeping and reporting abilities
