Overview:
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking vigilant and responsible Security Guards to join its Security Division. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safety of staff, customers, property, and assets by enforcing security protocols in line with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to act quickly in emergencies, and a proactive approach to safety and risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor surroundings and patrol premises to detect suspicious activities and prevent criminal acts
- Control access to the site for both vehicles and pedestrians
- Enforce security protocols, including searches of staff, visitors, and vehicles
- Monitor alarm systems, CCTV cameras, and use emergency equipment as required
- Investigate and report damage, unlawful entry, or security breaches
- Support store opening and closing procedures, ensuring all windows, doors, and taps are secured
- Maintain occurrence books and complete necessary security documentation
- Manage crowd control and support emergency evacuations
- Liaise with emergency services and law enforcement when needed
- Provide on-site assistance in crisis situations and submit detailed incident reports
- Offer ongoing safety advice and enforce all safety regulations
- Maintain professional customer service with all internal and external stakeholders
Requirements and Skills:
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate or Senior Certificate
- Grade C PSIRA accreditation
- Minimum of 1- 3 years of security experience in retail, shopping malls, or warehouses
- Sound knowledge of PSIRA regulations and industry best practices
- English proficiency (read, write, and speak)
- Fire emergency and Health & Safety training
Advantageous:
- 1+ year of experience in a similar security role
- Ability to speak a third language
