Salary: R86,620 per annum (Level 05, part-time), plus 37% in lieu of benefits

Overview

The Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS) is seeking to appoint 107 Independent Correctional Centre Visitors (ICCVs) on a fixed-term contract. ICCVs serve as independent monitors to uphold the rights and dignity of inmates and ensure humane conditions in correctional centres across South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

-Conduct regular visits to designated correctional centres.

-Engage with inmates to capture and resolve complaints.

-Monitor and report on incarceration conditions, including hygiene, food, health services, and rehabilitation activities.

-Liaise with Department of Correctional Services officials on daily matters.

-Write and submit detailed daily, weekly, and monthly reports.

-Support investigations into serious complaints and human rights violations.

-Perform related administrative tasks, including record keeping and mandatory reporting.

Minimum Requirements

-Grade 12 / Senior Certificate (compulsory).

-Good communication and report writing skills in English.

-Must be literate, independent, and assertive with high integrity.

-Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive complaints.

-A written recommendation from a community organisation (dated within the past 6 months).

-Knowledge of Batho Pele principles and human rights.

-A valid driverโ€™s licence is advantageous.

-Preference will be given to applicants residing in the same area as the listed correctional centres.
