Overview

The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment invites qualified unemployed graduates to apply for the 2025/2026 Environmental Internship Programme. This 24-month internship aims to develop future environmental leaders by providing hands-on experience in municipal environmental management and planning processes.

Key Responsibilities

-Provide environmental planning and management support to municipalities

-Offer technical advice in line with environmental legislation and municipal mandates

-Assist with capacity building initiatives and environmental awareness

-Support municipal planning forums, including IDP and District Development Model processes

-Monitor and evaluate the implementation of sector environmental programmes

-Facilitate integration of environmental priorities in local government projects

-Contribute to environmental governance at the municipal level


Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma or Degree in:
    • Environmental Management
    • Environmental Sciences
    • Or any other relevant environmental qualification
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation with emphasis on municipal responsibilities
  • Understanding of local government structures and their link to national and provincial governance

Additional Competencies

-Excellent verbal and written communication skills

-Strong interpersonal and stakeholder coordination abilities

-Good organizational and planning skills

-Familiarity with government planning frameworks

Valid driverโ€™s license (essential)
