Overview

The Department of Defence (DoD) is recruiting Groundsmen across multiple bases. Successful candidates will maintain gardens, grounds and external facilities to a clean, safe and presentable standard, supporting parades/events and applying OHS measures at all times. Minimum ABET and no experience required.


Key Responsibilities

Grounds maintenance: mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilising, watering and plant health monitoring.

Garden development: soil preparation; planting trees, shrubs and flowers; removal of alien vegetation.

Upkeep of external areas: sidewalks, parking lots, fences, planters, benches, fountains and parade grounds.

Equipment care: safe operation and basic care of mowers, trimmers/brush cutters, blowers, chainsaws, pole pruners and hand tools; report defects.

Waste management & hygiene: daily refuse removal; maintain neatness and cleanliness; support event/ parade preparations.

Safety: apply OHS measures and safe work practices at all times.


Requirements & Skills

Minimum: ABET (Grade 9).

Experience: Not required.

  • Know-how/Attributes:
    • Basic English verbal communication; basic numeracy & literacy.
    • Knowledge of health & safety and safe tool/equipment handling.
    • Physical ability to move materials/equipment and perform manual tasks.
    • Gardening basics and use of grounds/cleaning machinery (training provided).
    • Teamwork and ability to work independently; punctual, disciplined, neat.
