Overview
The Department is recruiting 10 General Workers to support water infrastructure, dam operations, and redline area compliance activities across multiple sites. This role is essential to maintaining safety, controlling movement of animals and vehicles, supporting dam operations, and protecting government infrastructure.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 8 / ABET Level 2 or equivalent
- Basic literacy & numeracy skills
- Ability to read, write, and complete simple forms
- Knowledge of security services (advantageous)
- Good communication & interpersonal skills
- Ability to write simple reports
- Prior general work or farming experience (advantageous)
Core Duties & Responsibilities
General Workers will be responsible for:
Operational & Manual Tasks
- Performing routine manual farming and ground maintenance activities
- Clearing bushes, vegetation, and obstructions
- Repairing and maintaining perimeter fences
- Digging, cleaning, and supporting dam-site upkeep
- Handling gardening tools and general maintenance equipment
Redline & Security Control
- Controlling the movement of cloven-hooved animals
- Stopping, registering, and searching vehicles in redline areas
- Checking, confiscating, or recording prohibited products
- Opening and closing gates where needed
- Controlling quarantined animals and checking validity of permits
- Tracing and identifying animal tracks along the redline fence
Administration & Record-Keeping
- Keeping accurate registers of:
- Vehicle entries and exits
- Quarantined animals
- Permit details
- Submitting daily reports as required

Additional Requirements (From Re-advertisement Notice)
- ABET Certificate (minimum)
- Experience in gardening, lawn care, or dam operations is an advantage
- Knowledge of safe working practices in government water infrastructure
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
