Overview
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is recruiting Administration Clerks for the 2026 intake. Successful candidates will support administrative operations within the Office of the Deputy National Commissioner: Crime Detection (Pretoria) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (Mayville, KZN).
The role requires individuals who are highly organised, detail-oriented and capable of handling sensitive and confidential documentation. Administration Clerks must manage office communication, maintain filing systems and support daily operational and logistical functions.
This position requires professionalism, accuracy, and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
General Administration
โ Provide administrative support to the relevant SAPS office.
โ Maintain filing systems, registers, leave records and document flows.
โ Manage logistical duties including office supplies, correspondence and equipment.
โ Operate office tools including fax machines, photocopiers, telephones and computers.
Communication & Record Management
โ Receive, screen and manage incoming calls and correspondence.
โ Draft letters, reports, meeting agendas and type minutes.
โ Safely handle and store confidential documents.
โ Ensure accurate and up-to-date tracking of internal documents and information.
Stakeholder Engagement
โ Liaise with other SAPS units, government departments and external stakeholders.
โ Support coordination of meetings, record-keeping and task follow-ups.
Minimum Requirements
โ Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) โ NQF Level 4.
โ Proficiency in at least two official languages, including English.
โ South African citizenship.
โ No criminal/departmental convictions or pending cases.
โ Willingness to undergo security screening, vetting and fingerprint verification.
โ A relevant certificate / diploma in administration or related fields is an advantage.
โ Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel) and strong administrative ability.
โ Ability to work under pressure and extended hours when required.
