Job Overview

BME, a division of Omnia, is recruiting a qualified Driver for the transport and delivery of explosive accessories at its Black Rock operation in the Northern Cape. This is a specialised temporary role suited to experienced drivers with proven exposure to explosives transport and strict safety compliance.

The successful candidate will also perform blasting assistant duties and assist at magazines, ensuring all activities comply with statutory, legal, and SHERQ requirements.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • Code 8 / Code B Driverโ€™s Licence
  • Dangerous Goods Permit (PDP)
  • Magazine Master Certificate (advantageous)

Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 yearsโ€™ proven experience driving and transporting explosive materials

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Receiving Accessories

  • Ensure correct explosive accessories are loaded according to requisition and delivery notes issued by the Magazine Master

Transport & Delivery

  • Drive safely and responsibly under all road and weather conditions
  • Deliver orders on schedule to customer sites
  • Comply with all statutory, legal, and BME procedures related to explosives transport
  • Assist with priming, stemming, tie-up, and magazine duties where required
  • Deliver correct accessories to authorised personnel and sign delivery notes accordingly

Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance

  • Perform prescribed pre-use inspections and complete checklists
  • Adhere to BME vehicle procedures and policies
  • Maintain daily vehicle cleanliness
  • Complete logbooks accurately and submit documentation to the office

Customer Deliveries

  • Obtain delivery notes from the Magazine Master and confirm alignment with scheduling
  • Ensure vehicle seals are intact and match delivery documentation
  • Break seals only in the presence of the customerโ€™s Magazine Master or blaster
  • Remain present during off-loading
  • Obtain signed delivery notes and submit them to the office

SHERQ & Housekeeping

  • Ensure full compliance with all SHERQ standards
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of both vehicle and site
  • Escalate serious offences or incidents to the Foreman
