Job Purpose
To carry out cleaning and/or refuse bin delivery related duties, including street cleaning, sweeping, stacking, lane flushing, carcass removal and bin deliveries within designated areas of the City of Johannesburg.
Key Responsibilities
Street Cleaning & Sweeping
- Clean designated streets and areas using brooms, shovels and litter-picking tools.
- Remove litter in developed areas, tourist areas, townships and informal settlements.
- Place filled refuse bags on pavements/kerbside for collection by street truck teams.
- Clear all spillage when refuse bag breakage occurs.
- Litter pick one side of the street at a time (no criss-crossing).
- Get acquainted with allocated work areas.
Refuse Handling & Stacking
- Collect refuse bags and place them in designated stacking areas.
- Stack bags properly, ensuring bag openings face the road.
- Remove boxes and ensure proper offloading at stacking points.
- Clean all bins as required.
Bin Delivery Duties
- Collect new/replacement bins from central stores.
- Inspect bins for damages before dispatch.
- Record serial numbers in the bin delivery register.
- Deliver bins and collect damaged bins in exchange.
- Ensure customers sign delivery receipts and issue copies.
Safety & Operational Compliance
- Always wear protective clothing.
- Observe all safety and operational procedures.
- Report safety incidents, equipment issues and injuries to the Team Leader.
- Liaise with members of the public and resolve or escalate complaints.
- Ensure all daily tasks are completed.
- Perform additional duties as delegated by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10
- Minimum 12 months cleaning/general work experience
- No criminal record
- Physically and mentally fit
- South African citizen
- Must reside within the City of Johannesburg (proof of residence required)
Required Competencies
Knowledge
- Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment and procedures
- Understanding of relevant legislation
- Knowledge of company procedures
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to follow instructions
- Ability to prioritise and execute assigned tasks
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
