KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is inviting applications for Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) contract positions as outlined in Identical Circular No. 02 of 2026 IDENTICAL-CIRCULAR-NO.-02-OF-20โฆ.
These positions are linked to the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) campaign and are available across various districts in KwaZulu-Natal.
1. EPWP Animal Health Technician (60 Posts)
Reference: EPWP 01/2026
Remuneration: R500 per day
Centres
uGu, eThekwini, ILembe, uMgungundlovu, Harry Gwala, uThukela, Amajuba, uMzinyathi, Zululand, King Cetshwayo, uMkhanyakude
Requirements
-National Diploma in Animal Health (NQF Level 6)
-Compulsory registration with the South African Veterinary Council
-Valid driverโs licence
-1โ2 years post-qualification experience (advantageous)
-Knowledge of veterinary legislation and disease control
Key Responsibilities
-Plan and implement disease control measures
-Provide extension services to animal owners
-Conduct primary animal health care activities
-Support vaccination campaigns and quarantine services
-Perform administrative and reporting functions
2. EPWP Data Capturer (80 Posts)
Reference: EPWP 02/2026
Remuneration: R400 per day

uMkhanyakude, Zululand, King Cetshwayo, uMzinyathi, Harry Gwala, uMgungundlovu, uThukela, Amajuba, ILembe, uGu, eThekwini
Requirements
-Senior/National Senior Certificate (Matric)
-No experience required
-Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Access)
-Good communication and reporting skills
Key Responsibilities
-Capture and verify animal vaccination data
-Record ear tag numbers and owner details
-Upload real-time vaccination data
-Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports
-Maintain digital and physical filing systems
-Ensure accurate record keeping during the FMD campaign
3. EPWP Administration Clerk (22 Posts)
Reference: EPWP 03/2026
Remuneration: R400 per day

uMkhanyakude, Zululand, King Cetshwayo, uMzinyathi, Harry Gwala, uMgungundlovu, uThukela, Amajuba, ILembe, uGu, eThekwini
Requirements
- Senior/National Senior Certificate (Matric)
- No experience required
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Access)
- Strong planning and organisational skills
Key Responsibilities
- Capture, store and retrieve vaccination data
- Maintain livestock statistics database
- Generate progress reports
- Assist with logistics and field support
- Compile S&T claims
- Provide administrative support during public awareness campaigns
General Competencies for All Posts
- Ability to work under pressure
- High level of accuracy
- Ability to work in a team
- Willingness to work weekends and extended hours during the FMD campaign
