Overview

Transnet Freight Rail is inviting applications for the position of Trainee Yard Official in Mandini. This trainee opportunity is designed to equip candidates with the necessary theoretical and practical training required to qualify and be certified as a Yard Official.

Successful candidates will undergo structured modular training and will be required to successfully complete all prescribed modules within the specified timeframes.


Position Purpose

The Trainee Yard Official will undergo modular theoretical and practical training to develop the competency required to perform Yard Official duties safely and effectively.


Key Responsibilities

-Attend and successfully complete the theoretical training programme within the required timeframe

-Attend and successfully complete the practical training programme within the required timeframe

-Develop competency to perform yard operations and operate assigned equipment

-Safely and efficiently execute work assignments aligned with Transnetโ€™s operational standards

-Maintain comprehensive records (portfolio of evidence) of all theoretical and practical training completed

-Ensure strict adherence to safety and operational procedures


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Must successfully pass a psychological screening battery test
  • Must successfully pass a relevant medical examination (including vision and hearing tests)
  • Must be physically fit
  • Must successfully complete and pass both theoretical and practical training

  • Yard Official Course
  • Yard and siding layout/working
  • Geography of the assigned section
  • Shunting procedures and train service operations
  • Railway Act 85
  • High voltage safety instructions
  • Hazardous materials handling
  • Radio train order system
