Overview

Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM) is recruiting a Fire Fighter in Ladysmith. The successful candidate will provide protection of life, property and the environment by responding to fire and emergency situations, conducting fire prevention duties and maintaining fire equipment in operational readiness.

This role requires strong emergency response capability, hazardous materials handling expertise and strict adherence to safety legislation and Transnet standards.

Position Purpose

To protect life, property and the environment through effective emergency response, fire prevention activities and maintenance of fire and hazmat equipment.

Key Responsibilities

-Maintain operational readiness at all times

-Conduct maintenance and servicing of fire equipment

-Perform specialized procedures during fire and emergency incidents

-Command incident sites until higher authority arrives

-Handle all Hazmat and fire equipment

-Conduct fire patrols after hours

-Inspect dangerous goods freight in marshalling yards

-Perform fire and equipment inspections of cargo sheds, warehouses and structures

-Provide fire protection for cargo, chemical tankers and explosives

-Operate the fire control room

-Standby and inspect hot work sites

-Inspect and test fire detection, suppression and sprinkler systems

-Conduct grain elevator inspections (dust explosion risks)

-Perform hot work inspections on vessels, rail networks and depot construction sites

-Ensure compliance with governance, risk management and legislative requirements

-Perform any other function as directed by authorized personnel

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12
• Fire Fighter 1 (SAQA/IFSAC accredited)
• Fire Fighter 2 (SAQA/IFSAC accredited)
• Hazmat Awareness (SAQA/IFSAC accredited)
• Hazmat Operational (SAQA/IFSAC accredited)
• First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Assistant Certificate
• Valid driver’s licence (minimum Code C1) with PrDP
