Overview

Transnet Freight Rail is recruiting 42 General Workers on a 4-month fixed term contract in Durban. Successful candidates will assist TEW and RNC Construction teams during maintenance and construction activities.

Job Purpose

• Assist TEW and RNC construction teams with maintenance and construction work.
• Ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently by performing general worker duties.

Minimum Requirements

-Minimum Grade 9 or 6 months relevant experience

-Physically fit (must undergo medical examination and be declared fit for duty)

-Safety conscious

-Able to communicate in English

-Willing to work in adverse weather conditions

-Prepared to work extended hours on short notice

-Willing to relocate or work outside designated depot

-Willing to work in confined spaces and at heights

-Prepared to engage in physical labour

-Able to work in noisy environments

Key Responsibilities

• Perform all tasks as assigned by the Supervisor or Team Leader
• Maintain punctuality and sober habits
• Handle, load and offload materials
• Clean sites, including removing weeds, stacking materials, sweeping floors and disposing of excess material
• Use non-mechanised hand tools in construction environments
• Clean and maintain tools
