Remuneration: R208.00 per day (EPWP rate)

Overview

Golden Gate Highlands National Park invites applications for two (2) Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitors under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). Successful candidates will support ecological monitoring, environmental education, and facility-support functions linked to the Wilgenhof Environmental Education Centre, while upholding SANParksโ€™ safety and service standards. Candidates must provide their own transport and accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct ecological monitoring and assist with environmental education activities and awareness events.
  • Help coordinate daily operations and task execution to ensure effective departmental functioning.
  • Plan and present environmental programmes for various audiences.
  • Prepare, organise, and maintain the Wilgenhof EE Centre facilities (dining area, kitchen, passages, ablutions, and surrounding open areas).
  • Perform cleaning and hygiene duties to prescribed standards; ensure kitchen, pantry, equipment, and storerooms are clean at all times.
  • Assist with stock control of cleaning materials and consumables.
  • Ensure compliance with SANParks Health & Safety requirements and general programme standards.
  • Support natural resource management tasks as directed.
  • Complete timesheets, logbooks, reports, and other basic administrative records accurately and on time.
  • Perform ad-hoc duties as required.

Requirements & Skills

Minimum

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Good physical health; able to perform field and facility duties.
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours.
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal); additional official languages are advantageous.
  • No criminal record โ€“ valid SAPS Clearance Certificate required.
  • Basic understanding of Health & Safety principles.
  • Own transport and accommodation (no staff housing provided).
  • Willingness to undergo a fitness assessment during recruitment.
  • Preference for local candidates; submit proof of residence.

Advantages

  • Certificate/Diploma in Natural Environment or related field.
  • Valid Code B (08) driverโ€™s licence.
  • Prior experience in environmental education, ecological monitoring, or similar community/outreach work.
