Overview
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport is offering 200 Trainee Provincial Inspector positions. Successful candidates will undergo a two-year structured training programme at the Traffic Training College, Pietermaritzburg. On completion of the Traffic Officerโs Diploma, candidates will be placed as Provincial Inspectors (Salary Level 06) at RTI stations throughout KwaZulu-Natal.

Key Responsibilities
- Enforce Road Traffic, Public Passenger, and Transport Legislation.
- Ensure the free flow of traffic through road duty, point duty, and accident scene management.
- Participate in traffic policing projects, hazardous location monitoring, and speed testing.
- Examine driverโs licences and monitor compliance at DLTC and VTS testing stations.
- Conduct vehicle roadworthy tests and provide visible traffic control.
- Assist motorists, control abnormal loads, and participate in roadblocks.
- Patrol hazardous routes, manage breakdowns, and enforce compliance with firearm regulations.
- Maintain professional ethics, discipline, and service delivery standards.
Requirements
- Educational: Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
- Licence: Valid Code B manual driving licence.
- Age: Not older than 35 years on the first day of training.
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
- Fitness: Physically fit, with the ability to perform strenuous exercise (medical certificate required).
- Record: No criminal record; candidates will undergo full SAPS clearance, credit, and suitability checks.

Training & Employment Conditions
- Candidates will sign a Performance Agreement and undergo 24/7 shift training at the Traffic Training College.
- Candidates must successfully complete the Traffic Officerโs Diploma within two years.
- Failure to complete the course will result in termination of employment and possible liability for training costs.
- Successful completion will lead to permanent appointment as Provincial Inspector (Salary Level 06) with 12 monthsโ probation.
