Overview:
Bergrivier Municipality is re-advertising the vacancy for a Traffic Officer based in Piketberg. This role is crucial for the enforcement of traffic laws, promotion of road safety, and provision of community policing services. The municipality seeks committed, physically fit, and experienced professionals to join its Community Services Directorate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce the Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 and relevant municipal by-laws
- Manage and conduct roadblocks in collaboration with SAPS and other stakeholders
- Educate school learners on road safety
- Assist in traffic control, accident scene management, and disaster response
- Execute vehicle testing, registration, licensing, and inspections for roadworthiness
- Carry out patrols, emergency response, and issue fines or perform lawful arrests for traffic violations
- Ensure public safety through traffic and community policing duties
- Maintain records, statutory documents, and submit required reports
- Participate in the Municipality’s Performance Management and Development System
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Traffic Officer Diploma
- Valid Code A and EC Driver’s Licence
- Basic First Aid Certificate
- Firearm proficiency certificate
- Two (2) to five (5) years’ relevant experience in traffic law enforcement
- Police clearance certificate (not older than 3 months) required
Requirements and Skills:
- Proficiency in at least two of the official languages of the Western Cape (Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-handling skills
- Strong attention to detail, ethical conduct, and professionalism
- Physically fit and capable of working shifts, overtime, and standby duties
- Must be flexible to serve in other municipal areas when required
