Overview:
Bitou Municipality invites applications from dedicated individuals for the position of General Worker. This role is critical in supporting the maintenance and upkeep of municipal spaces, ensuring that public areas are clean, safe, and visually appealing for all residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general labour duties such as planting and maintaining gardens, trees, and lawns at municipal buildings, sports grounds, parks, cemeteries, sidewalks, roads, and parking areas
- Assist with weed eradication as instructed
- Store and maintain cleaning equipment properly
- Follow safety procedures in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
- Perform cleaning, lifting, sweeping, and other manual tasks as required
- Follow assigned work-rosters and instructions accurately
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Basic Adult Education
- Relevant experience in a similar environment will be an added advantage
Skills and Requirements:
- Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
- Physically healthy and able to perform manual labour
- Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Responsible, disciplined, and able to work effectively in a team
- Attention to detail and task accountability
- Willingness to work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime
