Overview:
Bitou Municipality is seeking a skilled and dedicated Machine Operator (Small Plant) to join its operational team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and maintaining small machinery to ensure the effective upkeep of parks, public spaces, and municipal grounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain small plant equipment such as ride-on mowers, brush cutters, and chain saws
- Perform landscaping duties including trimming, cutting, and shaping lawns, flower beds, and shrubs
- Maintain parks, sidewalks, and other public spaces according to municipal service standards
- Report to and interact with various departments or institutions as required
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993)
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Basic literacy
- At least 3 years of experience operating small plant equipment
Skills and Requirements:
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
- Good verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions
- Availability to work outside normal hours, including standby duties, emergencies, and planned overtime
