Job Overview

The Department of Health invites applications for fourteen (14) Cleaner positions across multiple facilities in Gauteng. The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection prevention in clinical, pharmacy, hospital, and office environments, in line with departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Minimum Requirements (All Posts)

  • AET Level 4 (Standard 7 / Grade 9) to Grade 12 (minimum varies per post)
  • Minimum six (6) months appropriate cleaning experience
  • Ability to perform physical work and comply with Occupational Health & Safety requirements
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Honest, reliable, and able to work independently and in a team
  • Willingness to rotate shifts, departments, weekends, public holidays, and night shifts (where applicable)

Key Duties (Summary)

  • Cleaning of floors, walls, offices, consulting rooms, toilets, passages, and waiting areas
  • Dusting furniture, shelves, windows, and equipment
  • Waste removal (general and medical) in line with Infection Prevention and Control guidelines
  • Cleaning fridges, microwaves, cupboards, and work areas
  • Operating cleaning equipment and using chemicals correctly
  • Completing cleaning schedules and log sheets
  • Reporting damaged equipment and requesting cleaning materials
  • Performing additional duties as delegated by supervisors
