We invite an experienced and registered Clinical Nurse (Professional Nurse) to deliver individualised, holistic, person-centred care, coordinate multi-disciplinary case management, and uphold evidence-based practice within our acute hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Advocacy
    • Serve as a clinical resource to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care.
    • Communicate proactively with patients, families and the care team; act as a patient advocate.
    • Conduct and document rounds with attending medical practitioners; develop and review nursing care plans.
  • Advanced & Emergency Nursing
    • Provide specialised nursing care per unit SOPs, nursing theory and medical direction.
    • Initiate, direct and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) within scope of practice.
  • Coordination & Communication
    • Ensure seamless communication between nursing management and the unit to pre-empt and resolve care issues.
    • Prepare accurate day/night shift documentation (patient status, ratios, issues).
  • Quality, Safety & Risk
    • Maintain a safe, clean and secure clinical environment for patients, staff and visitors.
    • Monitor safe utilisation of equipment and supplies; report hazards and incidents promptly.
  • Policy, Training & Development
    • Contribute to the development of patient-care policies and procedures.
    • Collaborate with Clinical Facilitation on orientation, in-service training, mentoring and competency reviews.
    • Keep current with Netcare policies, clinical standards and technologies (e.g., CareOn e-records, e-scripts, clinical orders, stock management).
  • Resource Allocation & Teamwork
    • Allocate/adjust staffing according to acuity and skills mix to ensure optimal care.
    • Collaborate effectively with all departments to provide integrated support services.

Requirements & Skills

  • Professional Registration: Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of general and/or specialised nursing theory and practice; strong grasp of contemporary nursing principles, risk, quality and patient safety.
  • Competencies:
    • Clinical decision-making, holistic assessment and care planning.
    • Emergency care proficiency within scope (including RESUS).
    • Clear, compassionate communication and documentation.
    • Team leadership, collaboration and patient advocacy.
    • Familiarity with digital health tools and electronic clinical workflows (advantageous).
  • Personal Attributes: Professional, ethical, accountable; able to function under pressure; committed to continuous professional development.
