Transnet Port Terminals is recruiting a Driver: Port Mobile Equipment (FTH) to support cargo handling operations at Richards Bay Multi-Purpose Terminal (MPT). This role plays a critical part in ensuring safe, efficient cargo movement and reducing operational losses within one of South Africaโ€™s key maritime logistics hubs.

Preference will be given to applicants residing within the King Cetshwayo District.


Position Purpose

To load, transport and unload cargo within MPT Richards Bay by operating designated port mobile equipment in line with standard operating procedures. The objective is to optimise cargo flow, minimise damage and enhance terminal productivity and profitability.


Key Responsibilities

-Conduct daily machine inspections before commencing duties

-Complete daily task sheets and report equipment defects to supervisors

-Replenish fuel and fluid levels of equipment

-Operate equipment according to approved standard operating procedures

-Operate articulated vehicles, tractor-trailers, forklift trucks, payloaders and tip trucks

-Monitor equipment performance during operations

-Report accidents and incidents immediately

-Ensure correct attachments and equipment are used for varying cargo types

-Perform end-of-shift equipment checks and reporting


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / NQF Level 4
  • Valid Code 14 (EC) Driverโ€™s Licence
  • Certificate of Competence for each machine operated (Dumper, Front End Loader or Payloader)
  • Minimum 2 years relevant driving experience in:
    • Port operations
    • Maritime services
    • Warehouse tally or cargo handling environments

Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of terminal operational procedures
  • Understanding of port mobile machinery and equipment
  • Ability to operate heavy terminal machines competently
  • Knowledge of safety standards, machine loading capacity and safe operating procedures
  • Ability to handle and load various types of cargo and materials
  • Accurate reporting of defects, incidents and machine checklists
