Requirements

  • ABET Certificate (higher qualification advantageous).
  • Exposure to general work in similar environments.
  • Basic knowledge of gardening equipment, lawn care, weed control.
  • Awareness of maintenance practices for water infrastructure (canals, pipelines, dams, buildings).
  • OHS awareness; ability to follow instructions and report hazards.

Key Responsibilities

  • General maintenance: weed control, gardening, painting, firebreaks, herbicide application.
  • Routine inspections on departmental infrastructure.
  • Assist with maintenance on canals, pipelines, dams, servitudes, terrain & buildings.
  • Load/off-load equipment; report faults/defects/safety hazards promptly.
  • Comply with OHS Act and perform other general duties as required.

2) FOOD SERVICE AID โ€” R138 486 p.a. (Level 02)

Centre: Pretoria (Head Office) โ€ข Ref: 281125/23

Requirements

  • NQF 1โ€“2 or relevant qualification (N6/Diploma in Hospitality & Catering an advantage).
  • Up to 2 years food prep/serving experience (and/or 3 years cleaning) advantageous.
  • Knowledge of hygiene, sanitation, health & safety, inventory procedures, food prep & portioning.
  • Able to work shifts/OT; quality orientation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean kitchen utensils/equipment and apply hygiene & safety measures.
  • Provide catering support: prep snacks, beverages, basic meals.
  • Issue, account for and keep stock of kitchen utensils/equipment.
  • Set up crockery/cutlery, serve food & beverages; remove waste.
  • Control quality, note and report waste/losses; support ordering where required.

3) DRIVER/MESSENGER (X2) โ€” R193 359 p.a. (Level 04)

Requirements (common)

  • NQF 2 (or equivalent).
  • Valid Code 8 (B) driverโ€™s licence (disclosure required).
  • ~1 year driver/messenger experience; computer literacy (basic).
  • Knowledge of government procedures, OHS protocols, logbooks & document handling.
  • High responsibility, confidentiality, reliability, punctuality; client focus and teamwork.
  • Willing to travel and work extended hours; ability to track/trace documents accurately.

Key Responsibilities (common)

  • Safely transport officials and deliver/collect mail, files & official documents.
  • Complete logbooks & trip authorisations; perform routine vehicle checks.
  • Track/trace correspondence; maintain delivery/receipt registers.
  • Operate photocopiers; assist registry/admin support as needed.

4) WATER CONTROL AID (X22) โ€” R193 359 p.a. (Level 04)

Requirements

  • NQF 2 (or equivalent; higher qualification an advantage).
  • Basic verbal/written skills; record-keeping basics.
  • Basic understanding of government water works, water distribution & flood control.
  • OHS awareness; ability to do minor maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open/close sluices and handle water distribution sheets per scheme rules.
  • Minor maintenance on structures, fencing, sluices; clear blocked pipes/canals.
  • Remove algae/water grass, clean canal grids, gauge plates, structures; paint sluices and ensure numbering.
  • Daily inspections; report embankment holes, cracks, defects, stagnant water, irregularities.
  • Keep measuring box inlets open; lock post boxes; repair minor wash-outs.
  • Safeguard equipment; maintain and lock storerooms.

5) ARTISAN PRODUCTION (ELECTRICAL) โ€” Grade Aโ€“C (OSD)

Salary: R243 597 โ€“ R408 048 p.a. (based on proven experience)
Centre: Jericho Dam (Usutu River) โ€ข Ref: 281125/11

Requirements

  • Electrical Trade Test Certificate (appropriate).
  • Valid driverโ€™s licence (unexpired).
  • Knowledge: electrical production processes, OHS Act, legal compliance, QA.
  • Skills: technical reporting, analysis & problem solving; computer literacy; communication.
  • Team player; willing to travel, work long hours/standby; perform under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain electrical installations at dams, reservoirs, departmental houses, pump stations, repeater stations, dam walls & pipelines.
  • Maintain/inspect cathodic protection (TRUs).
  • Diagnose technical faults; repair & service equipment to standards/schedules.
  • Implement planned maintenance; update logbooks; ensure quality assurance & safety compliance.
  • Compile/submit technical reports; keep job records/registers.
  • Supervise/mentor staff; participate in standby when required; pursue personal upskilling.
