Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine, a world-class chrome ore producer located near Lydenburg and Burgersfort in Limpopo Province, is offering an opportunity for a qualified and safety-conscious Blasting Assistant to join its Mining North Division. Purpose of the Role
To assist in the safe and efficient preparation, handling, and execution of blasting operations in accordance with operational and safety procedures in an underground mining environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 / Standard 8 Certificate
- Blasting Assistant Certificate
Advantageous:
- At least 1 year of underground mining experience in roles such as Pump Attendant, PTW, Belt Attendant, or Rock Breaker
- 6 months practical experience specifically as a Blasting Assistant
Key Responsibilities
-Assist with face preparation prior to drilling operations
-Prepare, receive, and transport explosives safely to designated blasting areas
-Participate in the charging up of rounds under supervision
-Conduct pre- and post-blasting examinations, including watering down and cleaning the face
-Assist with measuring, marking direction lines, and identifying geological features
-Handle and treat misfires safely under supervision
-Perform post-blast activities such as socket washing and face cleaning
-Ensure proper demarcation and good housekeeping in blasting zones
-Adhere to all operating procedures, safety protocols, and legal regulations
-Report to the Miner and support all blasting and preparation duties as directed

- Selection will follow the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine Recruitment Operating Procedure
- Preference will be given in accordance with the company’s Employment Equity Plan and Mining Charter objectives
- Appointment will be subject to the successful candidate being declared medically fit as per the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996
- Only candidates meeting the minimum requirements and submitting SAPS-certified documentation will be considered
